Milking a thread

Post by AJR »

About twenty years ago now, Corgi announced a milk van livery on their then new Bedford CA in the Corgi Classics range. I was more than a little disappointed when it was released as just another livery variation on their already "milked" to death standard van and not even two toned particularly well.
I straight away started to hack apart one of their minibus versions to make a proper milk float, the side windows giving me a head start on cutting out the sides and then finally cutting out both rear doors.
I was going to do it in Express Dairy livery to match the van but as I had some Unigate decals to hand, it received an orange and white livery after fabricating a cab rear and a load bed from 1mm plasticard (brass would have been better as the load bed has warped with being stored in the loft for many years). The milk crates were pinched from an old Corgi Commer and slightly cut down to fit.
If I say so myself, I think I did a better job of the two toning than Corgi did. :D

Anyway, after many years, I have finally got around to doing something with the crates donor.
Should I do an Express Dairy or a Unigate? Well, neither looked right so I decided to upscale the old Matchbox 1-75 model.
Obviously the Matchbox replacement decals are too small so will have to upscale them on the PC.
I thought the grey tyres were appropriate rather than the standard black. Just need to do the decals and add a coat of gloss lacquer.
The "Drink More Milk" banner that fits across the top of the Matchbox model will be placed on the rear.
Pics show the repaint and one of my standard versions in Co Op livery.

Great work AJR, much better than the Corgi original and surely something they could or should have made, thank's for bringing them to the forum.
