Pimp My Army Truck!
Pimp My Army Truck!
I have now found four different a-series army models with what appears to be factory-applied radiator grille trim:
Nick Jones variation codes are:
62a: 2,
63a: unlisted: 10 x 24 BPW, d/h c/a, thicker rear slot brace, no hole baseplate,
68a: 3 (N.B. already listed by Nick with radiator grille trim), and
71a: 2.
It should be noted that neither the 62a nor the 63a carries any additional trim or super-detailing, indicating that these are unlikely to be from a model railway layout.
Confirmation of the existence of other examples of the 62a and 63a with grille trim would be appreciated.

Re: Pimp My Army Truck!
Very nice Hugh! I am sure that you are aware of the fact that Harold Colpitts "Confirmed" the existence of your 63A with silver grill by listing it in his 1983 (possibly his 1976 also?) AIM Guide. He also had your 68A listed there with and without silver grill, but never had the 62A and 71A with your noted silver grill. Thanks for noting all of these in this interesting Post, I will keep a sharp eye out for examples of them here at our U.S. shows I attend this year. Cheers! kwakers
Re: Pimp My Army Truck!
The 71a with grille trim was shown by Greg (and then confirmed by me) in this thread.
Re-checking the AIM listing, I see that you are right about the 63a. Hidden away in the general model description is the phrase "...with and without silver grille...", so that looks like a legitimate variation (and one that I missed in my catalogue review).

I'll look into it for you Alex, but it will take me a Week to form a Committee for this to happen so for now I suggest you turn your ipoddytablethingy upside down...
