Ford GT Regular or Gift Set Model

Post by matchboxkiwi »

Taniwha a member of this forum gave me this regular wheeled MB41 Ford GT model.
It's a bit beaten up but that's what makes it interesting. Had it been mint you wouldn't be able to see the white paint underneath.
I heard or read a story about the supply of yellow models for the G-4 Race Car Set running out and yellow over sprayed white models being used in the gift sets.
Can anyone confirm this?
This certainly looks likely to have happened to this model.

There are plenty of examples of Lesney overspraying models during the SF era, but I'm struggling to think of any production RW ones. This is therefore an interesting find.
Do you by any chance have a standard yellow 41c for a colour comparison?

Hugh,

From memory (it was a while back) it was darker and duller than the standard yellow. I put this down to it being very dirty and playworn, and in fact when I first found it, I thought it was just discoloured, rather than actually yellow - partly because of the white paint underneath. I then just thought it was primer coming through so I generously gave it to Steve as I already had another nicer yellow one!

This one was found in NZ incidentally, if that is of any significance...

Looks like I should be more careful about giving my good stuff away!! :o

Cheers,
Gavin

It looks a mustardy colour in the photographs rather than a bright yellow.

Gavin,
You could always bring your yellow one to the Wellington Toy and Die Cast Fair and we could throw it around the car park to try and knock some of the yellow paint off it to see if it's an over paint!!!!

I posted some pictures of the white field car. Not sure if you have seen them yet.

A miss-strike on the front rivet perhaps?

I would also have said a mistrike on the front rivet, the rear does look fine to me.

From what I can see the white paint is on top of the yellow in these pictures. J
