There can not be many members here who were not brought up on an Airfix kit. I had several (still have many of my original kits!) and being a specific car make collector, the Airfix range did include a couple of my favourite brand.
There are a couple of reference books on Airfix with this one being a good start for the beginner. It is based on a TV series of challenges by the BBC 'Top Gear' presenter, James May as part of a series involving popular toys from the past.
It is very entertaining reading because James unique broadcasting style comes across in the text. There is some very good historical Spitfire information that details most of the Mk's made with the matching Airfix kit.
At the back of the book there is a fairly good attempt at listing all the Airfix kits produced over the Years.

Another well produced book by Arthur Ward is his...The Boy's book of Airfix.
This is a variation edition of his earlier work, but I am not sure if it is better or worse for it, it is just another good Airfix book in my view.
This should be easily available as it is not really that old, but here is a copy on Amazon..http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boys-Book-Airfi ... irfix+book
