A local auction caught my eye and I put a bid on it, as high as I'm prepared to go for a model in this condition. However, my interest was sparked by this (in my eyes) unusually bright yellow orange jib colour, so I wanted to see what you think.

1. pictures too bright, not showing the true colour?
2. possible repaint?
3. original colour and therefore potentially a mildly interesting variation?

The seller's other auctions don't seem to show photos that are "too bright" so I took a chance regardless of the outcome. What do you think?

That's what I suspected but then the paint on the rivet is faded to the same shade?

Looking at the rivet, I agree.

Sunfade is a curious thing it can cause complete colour changes and get into areas you would not think possible

Is that silver paint on the baseplate?

Looks to me like the black paint is just scratched off a bit. Well...as I said, I put a bid on it anyway and not a high bid at all so if and when I win the auction and have the model in hand, I might follow up on this thread again but as it stands, the verdict seems to be sunfade. Oh well. Scat happens.

Would be nice to see it photoghraphed next to what we might class as a normal issue.

I am sure you will find that the boom has been re-painted over in yellow mainly because of that completely yellow painted bottom rivet Kiwi. On these Cranes the original boom color is always still seen in the recessed center of that base crane mast rivet, but the outer lip factory riveting to secure the boom to the Truck body removes most all of the boom's visible outer rivet paint when they are factory spun.
I think this Crane is a nice looking "custom" that was done by someone post factory, but the completely overpainted boom's rivet center screams purposeful deceit by a collector looking to create an oddity to fool others. I like the model's colors, so it can be displayed proudly for what it is, an interesting custom one off.
Please check the silver body as well for over-painting with a different shade of silver that was done many years ago, not recently. The front base rivet has no deep center hole to it, it's too flat finished rivet seems more Superfast style than those found during the period these cranes were done from 1962-65. There is something not quite right about this front rivet's center without standard Lesney tooling having been used to spin it.......
Orange will dull with sunfade and become lighter in shade, but fade to a brighter YELLOW as this one seems to have been pictured here???? kwakers

Thank you for the replies. It seems like I haven't been burned as often as 90% of the collectors in this forum because I don't tend to be as suspicious. For the handful of dollars that this model is going to cost there is really no fooling collectors and a massive profit margin. Malicious intent? It's sad that the market is so cynical sometimes. In this case I looked at the pictures for a while and then just say "oh well, let's see about that" and put a small bid down, even if it clearly doesn't feel right. It's still my curiosity which leads to some results that I don't regret. Like the superfast Lincoln Comtinental in regular wheels lime green. A custom for sure, but nice to have.

However, I haven't won the auction yet, it ends on Sunday, but with my low bid I expect that'll be me. If so, it won't be in my mailbox for another week. We will see then. For now, as a response to kwakers I wanted to add a couple of shots of my standard orange "normal" Magirus rivets.
