Blue Y6 Osram?

Post by Idris »

There was an interesting auction on Ebay this week with what looked like it might have been a duck egg blue Y6 Osram. I have my reservations because of the shininess of the grill trim (see below).
What do others think?

The axle-ends on this example are opposing, usually they are the same with the crimped end on the near-side of the vehicle and the Silver grille trim does look a bit bright for such an old model.

Already discussed this one on Moyboyz. As Ghostie says, opposing axle ends- usually symmetrical both sides, grille is far to good for condition of the body and the decals look to be repro as genuine have thick black outlines which makes the 'RAM & AM' in the decal look to be joined up at the bottom - these all have clear neat gaps. There is a guy in Germany who makes great reproductions of these rare models and they fetch real good prices but if this is one then it has been left somewhere to gather all the gunk on the wheels and body. Most grilles when seen are usually gold like mine and very old and rubbed off mainly and silver grille is by far the hardest of the two on what is an extremely rare model in any form ( probably comparable to a tan crane )

This is my genuine one.

I think the 2002 White book gives these Blue 'Osrams' a value of £2000.

I'd be suspect about that one because of the lack of close-up pictures and the darker blue model being a painfully obvious repaint.

This is probably one of the hardest YY's to find a genuine example of in any condition. The points made here had already been made over on MOYBOYZ as Mick says. My opinion of this item is that it's a copy/fake (same thing isn't it?).

So i guess, the grey and the dark blue one are "common" ones? What is price range for them?

£110-£160 (2002 White Book values).

The dark Blue example is a repaint and will be far less valued unless it can be cleaned up to a presentable standard, then maybe £20-£30.

"White Book" prices are for mint/boxed examples, and are for insurance purposes. Realistic prices tend to be 50% of those these days with the exception of the "blue chip" models. Unboxed is 50% of boxed price.

Main problem with this model is it sun fades to the blue shade. I got one from Leonard Joel here in Oz only to find it was sun faded but luckily they refunded me. You have to check for a consistent colour all over and especially inside the cab and the driver - if that is all ok then a fair chance you have a genuine one. Most I have seen over the years have never been perfect and had numerous chips over them so fairly easy thing to spot a repaint, just to glossy and good. The decals are another give away with repro ones being flat whereas original Lesney have the letters raised from the decal base.
