I've always wondered why a lot of the Japanese Matchbox advertising includes illustrations of vehicles that aren't Matchbox models!

The first one to me looks like the future MB67 Datsun 240Z the other reminds me of a Corgi Whizzwheels model I had as a kid that was white with a red sticker on the front with a black number 6 on it. The rear end opened up. I can't put my hand on my reference books at the moment.
I'm sure someone will no off the model.

Cheers, Steve

Not quite correct. That future MB 67 is a 260 Z. The 240 Z is a Speed Kings model (K-52) which was introduced much earlier than that one in 1974. It may have been in the planning stages in 1972, although I do not know if there is any connection with the picture shown here.

Steve more likely referred to the Corgi Juniors version of this model. His description fits that one exactly.

Thanks for the picture Ghosty but I was thinking of the smaller one as Christian mentioned. Not that it really mattered as my point was why do the Japanese illustrate non Matchbox models. The blister pack header cards are the same!

Steve, any chance you can just show the area I have highlited with the Red box just to show the Rolls-Royce clearer. Don't get too close it needs to be in focus, I just want to see that is is either a drawing based on a photo of the model or it is a photo. The colouring is making it look like a 'Preproduction' or 'colour trial' model, thank's.

Ghosty, these must be photos. From the shown angles they can't be drawings but were photographed from above, lying on their sides and lighted from the left side. As an illustrator you wouldn't draw such unrealistic looking shadows under cars.
