Mystery Danish Racing Car
Mystery Danish Racing Car
I've just received this little old racing car from Denmark. The seller described it as a Micro but I'm guessing that is a size reference rather than maker as I cannot find a Danish maker of this name. It is quite similar to my Crescent racing car as you can see from the second picture but at 45mm in length it is even smaller. Does anyone have any ideas who made it?
Re: Mystery Danish Racing Car
Did you buy it from a dealer in Copenhagen? A dealer friend of mine had one for sale on 'epay'. There is a Danish company called Micro and it is documented in a Danish book "Danske Modelbiler" (Danish Modelcars). This one is not pictured but many others are with the same type wheels. Made in 1932-45, according to the book! All their cars/trucks/buses are very crude and in the same style...
Good find!!!

Re: Mystery Danish Racing Car
Sorry I am late for this...
Micro had Two ranges of vehicles, MICRO which were around 1/50ish scale and MICRO DK which were smaller, around 1/76 although I am using modern scales to describe these they were not standardised in the 1930's.
Two examples of the smaller models of which the single seat race car is part of this range.
These Two are from the larger size range, an Ambulance and Wrecker Truck.
The method of production is very crude and by the 'Slush' cast method.
I don't have a full listing of what was made, but another single seat race car exists from the 1/50 scale range along with another Wrecker Truck and another 2 door coupe car. There is a School bus about 13cm long, there are bound to be others, especially something to go with the Ambulance.
Ghosthunter.

More great photos! Thanks. the Danish book lists 30 different Micros with many pictures. The call them Micro and Micro Mini, but don't know if the company ever made that distinction.
Re: Mystery Danish Racing Car
Well Karl, I watched helpless as your dealer friend listed Micro after Micro on ebay and I didn't get one more of them! There was a single deck tram that was very nice indeed.
However, I found another Micro racer, same style as my first one but this time in green This came from Denmark too, but the seller can't have known what it was as it was listed with another smaller racing car, this time in plastic and with the name 'Pilot' on the base. They were listed together as 'Pilot Racing Cars' and maybe nobody likes Pilot as I think I was the only bidder. Anyway, I like it even if it is a bit new for me

if you want to sell the Pilot racer I would take it.
I add a picture of my danish racer to this thread.

Re: Mystery Danish Racing Car
Pilot is also listed in my Danish book - very collectible so you were lucky to find those 2 together in the same lot. Here is a little history - http://www.87thscale.info/pilot.htm
I would also be happy to take the Pilot off your hands!

Thanks Karl and Stephan
I don't know why I didn't think to use the 87thscale site as it is one I go to quite often. I see my little racing car is a 1936 Maserati 6CM. I will be keeping it for sure - although I am a very long way from any motor racing here when I was younger I spent many happy holidays with my grandfather who lived in a town called Leek, conveniently located about half way between Donington Park and Oulton Park. Our favourite meetings were the VSCC events, with Maseratis, ERAs and such makes (I saw the Napier Railton once - what a machine!). So 1930s racing cars are a little special to me.
If I find a 2nd I will keep quiet until I find a 3rd and then I can send you one each

Better info on Pilot is here in Danish! Use google translate to understand it...
