12c Land Rover Safari
12c Land Rover Safari
I have a question concerning the Gold Safari regular wheels, I have one that I purchased in the Sixties, that is as described in the Stannard Guide, (front tow guide no rear lug) however Nicks guide says the Gold Safari has a rear lug?

Re: 12c Land Rover Safari
You may have found a very important model in two respects TNT. The main point is that this regular wheel model in Gold has always been an ultra rare variation to have even been seen. I have never owned one of these originals, but I have seen a couple of real ones for sale at Toy Shows.
If we know that yours is a true unmolested original Transitional model found years ago, it now shows that two sets of bases were used ALL THE WAY through this Safari's production. One set had the rear base lug behind the tow hitch, while the other set of base dies had no lug there at all. Using Stannard's Guide for several years now, my thoughts were an early style base WITH, and then a later one WITHOUT that lug. Your model now opens up my eyes to what has been in front of us all this time. It seems all variations of this Safari could come with or without that small lug, even your rare last Gold Safari. Either no one here has ever reported one like yours to Nick to correct him, or perhaps Nick simply made a mistake in his original listings on these Gold Safaris that no one else has noticed before.
Nick will be needed to answer your question on this Guide Code, there is no doubt that your model is original and correct as Mike Stannard had seen them in writing his Guide. Rear lug version corrected or added, Nick will have to decide what happened on this one! kwakers

Would it be possible to post clear close-up pics of the Gold Landys base incl the base rivet alone?
