Hi all, just had a week in Cape Verde a lot of new building work going on the island, mainly hotels. Saw a super cement mixer never seen anything like it, didn't manage to get any photos. It was all white the cab was very similar to the Freeway lorry has anybody seen one similar. Would like to know the maker, did matchbox make anything like it Pete

Hi Ghostie thanks for photo It was a lot smaller, the front cab is the one they use on the freeway gas tanker. I could not see any openings on the doors. The cement barrel was very similar to the ones they use in the UK. Pete

My picture is of an Oshkosh and they seem to excel in exotic designs for trucks etc and there are models of these trucks. Why don't you do a rough (or as good as you can get it!), drawing, take a picture of the drawing and then post here, that might work.

Hi Tinman, you will have to make us one, take the front half of the Freeway gas tanker & the back half of a late cement mixer, spray it white & that's it for Ghostie, I have a job writing my own name let a loan doing any drawing. We are going back to Cape Verde in a month or so hope I see the mixer again. Pete

I work on four of these Oshkosh Mixers plus 60 other pieces of rolling stock for my daily job Miller. The cab in the rear is actually to cover the Engine and the transmission put in backwards to power this Cement Mixer, so it can be tilted up in the front for servicing. The very rear of this back cab is the radiator, so the air to cool the engine enters the rear of the truck rather than the front as on most other conventional trucks. A new Oshkosh Mixer like this one costs roughly $250,000 U.S. complete without taxes, so they must be run quite hard in order to pay for them. Our four are now turning 16 years old and still run as strong as when they were delivered brand new in 2000. All three axles are able to be driven in a low-low gear when necessary to get into muddy yards and construction sites, and that lifted axle comes down with air to share the load and make the truck legal on bridges when carrying 10+ yards of concrete. The three concrete chutes on the front are all hydraulically controlled to stretch out 15 feet and can be rotated and aimed by the driver in the cab in a 180 degree swing. Our Mixers carry an additional 30 feet of chutes with them, but this truck pictured has no extra lengths of chute showing in this picture. kwakers
