In amongst my Yesteryear photo collection I have this odd Model T Ford photo.
I'm not sure what it's for?

This is the photo, but Over the top it has this orange transparent sheet. What's it for? So now the photo looks like this! Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve.

First, the model is the rare club issue from 1976 and even when being issued it was scarce, so even more so now!

The picture would have been for the club's newsletter and the flyer/advert for the promotion. The Orange tint sheet will have something to do with the printing process used at the time to create both good quality Colour and Black and White images.

A very nice rare find.

Here are a couple more T's. On this box notice that it also has the Maxwell Roadster 1911 named. Mick has this model but what intrigues me most is that a number of manufacturers used one box to house more than one model.

Thank's Tom for showing your rare Model 'T'. Any chance you can now show just the picture of the model as seen on the club newsletter your model is sitting on. Just to confirm it is the same picture as shown by Steve at the start of the thread, thank's.

I have this framed on the model room wall.

And the model to go with it from the cabinet with the correct box with white number, not gold.

I don't want to dilute the fun in owning such a model, but although the promotion was through 1976 (can Bob confirm this through dates on his newsletter), and the model's wheels confirm it is from 1976 production, I wonder if they sat around for a while and got put into later boxes with the White 'Y-1' number.

It is of course possible the example shown by Bob has been put into the wrong box by a previous owner as most surely he would have had more than one Model 'T' Ford and if out of boxes for display in a cabinet, this is most likely.

Even Today, a lot of collectors with 'Woodgrain' collections are not aware of the Two colours used on these boxes until it pointed out to them.

For the benefit of members here...

From 1973 when the 'Yesteryear' models were facelifted with new brighter colours, fitted with wider plastic wheel and tyre combinations and placed in new window boxes now known as the 'Woodgrain' type, the model's catalogue number on the top of the box was in a dark 'Gold'. During 1977, this number changed to White.

My information is that all the black models came in the box with the white number. The black models were the very last run of the model, (excepting later re-vamps for the Connoisseurs Collection) so much so, that the numbers were limited due to a lack of components.

Thank's Bob. So, if they were all in White numbered boxes, was there a delay in getting them sent out to club members and part of the problem of the lack of components included the box and they took the next available box from early 1977. I can not imagine what other components could have caused problems for the Guys doing this model for the club members. What was happening in 1976 to the Model 'T' Ford to mean Lesney could not supply enough parts to make more of them, Hmm, we may never know...

As mentioned above, the black models were made towards the end of the Model T's production run, immediately before it was replaced by the SS 100. It is therefore logical that they came in the very last box variation made for the Model T, i.e. the one with the white rather than gold model number.
