Dinky Large Scale

a post in the Lounge Section has prompted me to post ;)

So I thought I would share this recent purchase. Not too many are aware of Dinky's 1:25 scale models from the early to mid 1970's. They only made one car, the Ford Capri but in three variations. Why the Capri, who knows. Why not do something more renowned like a Mustang???
Anyways, the models are lovely, big, heavy and solid. Lots of details, moving parts, suspensions, etc. They can be found at reasonable prices in playworn condition without boxes, which mine are. Mint in box are out of my budget range.

Just before New Year's I picked up the blue with black roof version (Dinky No. 2162) to go with my rally version (Dinky No.2214) in red with black roof. I am always on the hunt for the police car version (Dinky No. 2253) in white.

I forgot to take pics of the underneath, but there is a lot of detail even on the bottoms (chrome exhaust, headers, engine pans, etc)

To give you an idea of size, the last picture shows the 1:25 scale models I have along side the Dinky No.213 Capri 1:43.

Great to see you posting Shane. Those Capris take me back to the 70's when my dad owned one. :D

I've not seen these before Shane but they look good, well detailed and nicely finished. I had a Capri when I was about 20, it was a dodgy beige colour with a brown vinyl roof. In the UK, the boy racers loved them, I dreamed of a 3.0 litre or a later 2.8i but it never happened.

They're great models, and all three can be found on E-Bay in mint/boxed condition at the present time. Not cheap though at £80-£130.

Hi Mate,
Lovely Capris!
Dinky were going large scale in the 70's to compete with the likes of Polistil from Italy who were making really good large scale replicas.
Sadly they didn't do more, but the Capri is very collectible now.

This is the base of the Capri. It is always important to post pictures of the bases of the models because there are many variations there.

The next model to be issued at the large scale of 1:25 was a Jaguar for which the drawings had been made but I suppose that the Capri did not sale well and the Jag. project was cancelled.

I've said it before...the Mark I Capri is one of my favorite cars. I like the 1:24 Dinky, though I wonder why they chose to give it the front end of the U.S. car.
