23b Berkley Caravan variation

Post by nearlymint »

Recently going through a few new additions, noticed a brace running along the base(front left inside).
If you look through the middle window on the right side, you can see it along the edge on the left side.
So far I have found this brace on codes 9 and 10, very near to the end of the codes.

Of course he has, how do you think he manages to get those 'Pre-Pro' models, he has bionic telescopic vision.

J, I noticed that the raised area highlighted in the image below is also a lot smaller that the other casting shown, is this another unknown casting difference or has this been noted before? :D Or is it a trick of the camera?

That is a real nice spot Jason! We Forum members can now check all our 23Bs to find out how early these bases with that left brace were originally found on all our codes on this one. One question to you now that was not made clear in your Post: Do you have any of the code 9 and 10 Caravans WITHOUT this base brace, or do all your code 9 and 10s have this newly found added brace? We'll have to see if only one, or perhaps both base castings were still in use late in this model's life. There goes Nick's 'nearly complete' online Guide with yet another casting change missed all these years by we detail collectors. Another nice job eagle eye. Thanks!...kwakers

Hi Jason. I only have a couple of 23b's. The code 4 doesn't have the brace but my code 9 does have the brace, as yours does. Well spotted. I don't know how you photographed it so cleanly.
