MBXPilot's Lesney Collection

Hello everyone! I want to be a bit more active on this forum, so how about a thread to showcase my collection and new additions. I collect diecast of all sorts, but am trying very hard to focus on Lesney regular wheels, and transitionals up to 1970. Here's my Lesney collection as it sits now. This is roughly 5 or 6 years of collecting Lesneys up to this point. Been collecting modern diecast my whole life, but just started on Lesneys those 5 or 6 years ago. And I'm only 24!

And there's probably that many more sitting in my little workshop waiting to be restored :D

And here are some of my most recent finds. I'm staying in a hotel for next month or so, during training for my new job. So ebay is my friend haha. Again, I'm focusing mainly on Lesney models up to 1970, and in as good of condition as my meager budget allows.. But ebay can hide some real bargains if you're patient!

I am sticking to main color/wheel variations for now, though those tiny obscure casting variations are fun to hunt for. My usual budget is $5 shipped, and you'd be surprised the kind of cars I've gotten for that price in the past. I'll go up to $10 for something really good, such as the gold Land Rover shown below.

So I'll continue to update this thread as new finds arrive, and with any other interesting pics I feel like sharing!

Having your own thread on the forum is a good idea and I am supprised so few members have done this. All you need to do to find it easily when you have been away from it for a while is open 'Internet Explorer' on you computer, search for 'Vintage British Diecast Forum', go into the 'Look at what I just got' thread, find your own thread (MBXPilot's Lesney Collection), and right-click your mouse or touch pad, this should give you an option to create a Short Cut on your desk top, taking you directly to your own thread without having to search for it every time you come to the forum.

Nice to have the Mercedes-Benz 'Binz' Ambulance and the Silver Shadow with narrow wheels but with large wheel-arches.

My focus is on the Regular Wheel era, and I also have a meager budget. You are correct in that some patience can get you some surprisingly good models, as is the case with these two King-Size models. You have amassed quite the fleet with your small budget!

Logan,

That's an awesome collection considering your spending limits. Just shows that you can enjoy our hobby without getting into too much debt, while still having an interesting and fun collection.

Cheers,
Gavin

Hi Logan, a nice looking collection you have there.

Working on a budget is most of the fun with collecting.
If I won Lotto and became a millionaire it would be no problem to spend big bucks and buy whatever I wanted but pretty sure there would be little enjoyment.
Watching the seconds tick down and bids edging up to your limit - great fun. Getting the winning bid - excellent!

Have fun with your collecting and look forward to seeing more of your items as you update your collection.

Nice collection on a budget
You don't need to spend big bucks to get some nice models, there's a few of us who have found some bargains dirt cheap
Keep up the good work :D

Yeah you said it Tractorboy. If I won the lottery I could go out easily enough and buy every variation of every model and have a "complete" collection. But the hunt is half the fun!!

Had quite a few mailbox finds today!! A couple of new castings to the collection, as well as some new variations.

This is one of those fairly common castings that I actually didn't own a presentable version of, until now.

And this one, not mint but it was cheap!

Buying on the cheapo is fun, in other words try to get as much Lesney's for as little money, that makes the hunt very rewarding.
Like you say, patience is a good coach. Buying "played with" models or more or less bangers to restore is double fun.

I like your collection, you have quite a number of #75 Ferrari.

Before I forget, the way you store some of models in "boxes", is that Lego?
