First question...

Why do you want to do a clean up?

Soak it in coca cola to clean up the axles. Then use a tooth brush to clean the loose rust off the axles and wheels. Clean the tooth brush and clean off the dust, dirt and remaining coca cola with warm soapy water, rinse and dry. The marks on the bottom could be nail polish, try some nail polish remover first. If that does not get them off go to alcohol and then lacquer thinner (dip a cotton bud in each and use that to remove the paint). The paint is pretty tough on those older models, so you don't have to worry too much. Some very light oil will protect the axles from getting any worse and may even clean off more of the surface rust.

Thanks Tinman, How long should i soak in coca cola for?

For GHOSTHUNTER, it is not my intention to alter the model, just clean it up and prevent further oxidization before display

cheers steven

You can soak it for anywhere from two to four hours.

OK Steven, no problem.

Follow the advice given by "Tinman" above and you should be OK, the only additional work will be too clean axle-ends with a pencil eraser.
