Dan Toys Guy

Post by starni999 »

Hi all,
Dan Toys (and soon Atlas?) have released all the original Dinky Guy lorries, plus this beauty.
Just had to get this one, I might treat myself to the full set if I can, a 920 that never was with 1st Series Guy cab,

I once saw a "real" one of these made in the 70's by drilling the back off a 920 and fitting it to a 919 chassis, both mint! Well there was £2000 + worth of Dinkys ruined then!

£2000+ that hurts the more you think about it... :o

Chris, these 'DAN TOYS', are they made with original tooling from Liverpool and France, or are they like the 'ATLAS EDITIONS', made in the style of Dinky with 'Cad-Cam' and modern tooling.

Hi Mate,
No they are strictly a scanned in Dinky. No original Meccano tooling exists except for the Rover SD1 and Jag XJ, and nobodies sure where they are now.

Hi Chris, Interesting you mention the Jaguar and Rover, both made for Dinky by 'LINTOY' in Hong Kong. Summer Metal Products released a Jaguar SD1 as model number SS-909, with friction power and the model is a dead ringer for the Dinky model, so unless this can be proven to be made from different tooling, we know where at least one set of tools went after being used by Lintoy.

Hey Ghosty, the SD1 you mention is the same tool.

The latest DTCA Journal has a reprint of a Model Collector Magazine June 2014 article on the Last Dinky standing being the SD1.

Thank you for the confirmation, that adds to the historical background to the Rover model and I can look at mine with more interest. I have a brand new old stock Jaguar (in it's bubble-wrap bag!), and Rover on back order and coming into my ownership soon.
