#53 Mercedes 220 SE flattened base rivets

Found this one today and on closer inspection the base rivets appear to have been struck twice . The first strike looks normal but the second appears to be done with just a flat end tool that has totally flattened the rivet . It is a code 8 so being the very last maybe the dies were worn . I have noticed the baseplate holes on all these models are very large and some appear to be just hanging on . Has anyone else seem the same flattened rivets on other models . The #8 mustang could have done with this sort of flattening as well .Hope pics are ok.

This type of rivet flattening is mostly found on the #59 Fairlane Fire chiefs.

It looks as if the base holes where too big . Even with the extra flattening you can still see the edge of the hole in the base .

This is quite common on the 53b on both the red and the maroon. George shows the base plate view with oversize hole appearance in the casting show and Alex (motorman) posted a really good example of the same rivet effect back in October 2013 in the 1-75 section see page 4 title - 53b Mercedes in Maroon with BPW

This sort of rivit flattening also common on 1969-70 SF67 VWs - same tool/machine at work it appears!
