Saved 'LEFORA' Threads.

Post by GHOSTHUNTER »

Hi all.

I have saved all the 'Lesney Matchbox boxes & blisters' threads from the old UP-GRADED...!!! 'LEFORA' forum.

They are saved in a single folder with some other threads, such as 'Landy's journey', so I can get to them quickly.

If I could work out how to get the whole folder into this site, we could enjoy all those old threads again and with the pictures that were displayed on the old site.

If however you want something from the boxes thread, give me a shout and I will look for it and get it posted onto this forum, in the Matchbox Boxes section, where they belong. I don't know how successful this will be, or how I will manage it, but at least I have them.

As I said in a posting about how to save these threads in the 'TWO FORUMS' section in the Lounge, not all the pictures are viewable, this is simply because of the so-called 'Lefora' upgrade of the pictures, not the way the thread has been saved.

Regards,
GHOSTHUNTER.

I suspect that when Lefora realise that their forum is all but redundant they will stop any upgrading of images to the posts!

I tried to save some of the superfast casting show using the method you indicated, however it certainly saved a format of the original but the pages were blackened out and none of the images were saved. So i have given up on that. If you are able to i would appreciate of you could save some of the superfast stuff, The casting show and Micks Superfast chat room.

Thanks

Hello motorman,

OK, see what I can save for you.

The saving method does appear to depend on what 'Browser' you are using. I use Google as my default browser but can still use Internet Explorer, but have not tried that yet, as I experience a lot of 'hangs' with I.E. so switched to Google with no probs.

Thanks for trying it yourself, I appreciate the feedback.

Cheers for now,

18power, you have a personal message.

Look at the 'User Control Panel' text above left, just under 'Board index', it should show...(1 new message), click on this, it will take you to your own 'Control panel'.

The above posts were concerned with trying to save as many important threads as possible from the old 'Lefora' site. I had saved a huge amount of the postings and pictures on Two lap tops and One big Media Centre PC. I then condensed all the information into a few folders and transferred these onto my main lap top (lap top #1). Well, the inevitable happened and I had a few issues with the machine and a serious crash forced a replacement Hard drive, all was fine for a few Months and another crash saw yet another replacement Hard drive (still working as I write this...), but the repair shop would not recover any of the data from Hard drive #2, and put it onto Hard drive #3, so all was lost and personal devastation set-in and I was gutted at the thought of not having access to any of my model information again and of course, this meant all the 'Lefora' stuff I had saved.

Having recently gone back into our old 'Lefora' site (unarmed I might add, so was lucky to catch the vagabonds all asleep!), for some pictures to re-post on this forum, it seems the site is still up and running and I still have easy accesses to all sections of the site. I decided I would use a commercially available website copier to copy the forum while I still had the chance. It seems to have worked as before when I had made a copy, but the advantage here is that it is supposed to be accessible without an internet connection, but while my #1 laptop is connected, it does allow normal access to the site and it looks no different as if we all were still using it.

Now, the chances are that when 'Lefora' finally goes 'Off-Line' I may have a problem, the blurb with the copying software does not say what happens to the copy in such an instance, but while it stays 'On-Line', I have a working copy of the forum on my computer.

This sounds hopefull Kevin.

It would be a pitty that all great information is lost.

Kevin - there is a free web site crawler called HTTrack ( download from HERE ) - the benefit of this software is that it saves all the photos and text to your local hard disk - HOWEVER i'm not sure how it would go on Lefora - if you give me a working url to access I could try to snaffle the old forums - but not sure how big they might be (sizeable I assume)

Thanks Kevin for all the time and effort you have put into retrieving all that data. Could you save it onto a pen drive?

Tried to get into Lefora but I can't get in even using an old username as I was never accepted as a member ofthe VBD forum... :x

Tried to crawl the site using HTTrack but because I can't log in all it brings me is the sign in pages and index.html files which have nothing... :(

Hello Alex. I will try that, pretty sure it can be saved to at least one form of removable media like a pen drive or DVD disc, but you yourself may previously have had to have been logged into the site for the copy to work. I'll play around and see what happens.
