Replica Display Stands

Post by johnboy »

I couldn't find the thread but I think a few people were asking about replica displays recently:

Is nothing sacred any more, sorry I'm not a fan of anything reproduction, I think it takes away from the authentic. Just like Action Man 40th anniversary stuff.

In it's defence, that particular display is at least coming from the UK Matchbox club (formerly MICA), and registered club members can pay by 3 x £50 installments, so I think it's fine to buy One for loose models in a collection.

Still not my cup of tea Kev as I'm a bit of a purist.

I agree with Tim. Unless the display is marked in some way as a reproduction then they become a pain. Don't care who makes them - even if Mr. Lesney him self - it just causes problems later on. I'm all for suitably marked items as nothing looks better than your models on a nice display in your toy room. I was hoping for some card repro ones as older ones are getting very brittle now and tend to collapse with the weight of models on them. Anyone got any idea how to store old card stock as used on displays. I have an early 60's YY one and totally come apart at all the original card bends.

Photos on ebay appear to be of an original stand with yellowed plastic - looking at the link I would have suspected some kind of dodgy deal especially with a seller name like that and a 3-4 week waiting time which means difficult to claim a refund when pp allow 30 days from payment date.........

It does looks like photos 1 & 3 are the same stand, possibly original, and photo 4 is the replica. It's not a clear way to set up a listing. I wouldn't be interested in these, but ebay protection seems to apply providing you open a case within 30 days of the expected delivery date and not payment date (according to their blurb anyway)

•Sellers want to maintain a good reputation and in most cases will look to fix the problem straightaway, so contact them first – either via "My eBay" or directly using the Resolution Centre. To benefit from the eBay Money Back Guarantee, you must do so within 30 days of your actual or latest estimated delivery date.

This is how the display stand appears on the club's website...

...I don't think they would pass it onto a dodgy Ebayer to sell for them, so rest assured Mick that seller in the link is genuine... :)

It should be made very clear on this display that it is a replica !!!
Still not cheap for a replica.
