Need help for valuation of repainted Massey Harris

I bought an early Lesney Massey Harris Tractor from ebay. Unfortunately the model is restored and repainted. Exhaust is broken during postage and it is restored from a pencil. I am not an expert but I think model was good to very good condition before repaint. I think wheels are not repainted and not that bad. What a pity.

Seller kindly offer refund. And also ask for partial refund. I may keep this model as a filler.

What is the fair price for a model like this.

Thanks in advance.

I wonder if the seller knew it was a repaint, they many not have known. Still a difficult model to find and a restored model has value. As to price, I think it's between you and the seller to come up with a compromise price for the model. Decide how much you are willing to spend on the restored model then make them an offer for the model and see if they agree or counter offer.

Looks a very good repaint apart from the gold trim. You can get white metal replacements for the stack if you wish from the good model spares suppliers. I would personally keep it.

Hi Moyboy,

Actually I want to keep it. Do not want to search for better one. I know it is hard to say but I need approximate value for fair deal for a model like this. So I can offer to seller. What do you think. How much it worth?

Hi Tinman

Thanks for your reply. Seller do not sell any other Lesney related item. She says this model is inherited from her past father-in-law. I believe she says the truth.

You are right the price is what the seller and buyer agree. But especially your opinion is very important for me. Because you are restoring very lovely models. I want to offer a fair price. So I need help from experienced collectors and veterans.

I would say about $80 USD as a low ball figure. With the exhaust stack repaired, someone else may well pay much more, even with the repaint disclosure.

A fair price for this would be £60 low ball or £80-100 real world.

This one sold at auction for £55 hammer, which with commission and VAT is really £69 last week(i bought it :D ),so i think the estimates given are bang on.
