The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) is, once again, confused, referring to thick and thin (exhaust) stacks. Could this be a mistake, instead meaning tall and short stacks? Colour differences are highlighted, with the noted combinations being blue and yellow, all blue, blue and yellow-orange, light blue and yellow-orange, and all light blue.
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) notes variation 39-3c as being all blue but with a long exhaust stack. However, it is unclear whether "long" in this context means 5mm or 7mm. (My guess is that it's the former.) The existence of light blue and yellow, and all light blue issues is noted (variations 39-3e and 39-3f respectively).
Stannard lists a model at variation 39c-18 as orange/thick hook/5mm stack/3.5 mm ring on the right. This is also listed by Houghton as variation 39c-22. If confirmed, this would be the first of the orange-bodies tractors (i.e. code 25 in Nick's table). Houghton also notes the obvious companion variation with the 4mm stack as his variation 39c-23. If confirmed, this would therefore also slot in above the existing orange variations in Nick's table.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model, but mentioned it in passing in vol. 6 no. 6 (Feb. '83) p229 when discussing the BMX range and noting that this was the source of the orange 39c tractors.

Re: 39c Ford Tractor
Hello Hugh,
This is probably a good place to record that Nick was looking for further information and examples on the larger 8.00mm yellow hub size on the front axle on the orange tractors with Christian F having found some in June 2010.
I noted when Mokosex Dave recently showed the three he secured from a recent Stacey’s July/August 2015 auction win that he had both left and right ejector ring variations amongst the three orange units with large front hubs. Perhaps Dave can confirm the ejector position.
This could also confirm for Nick a second example of each if models are authentic could be included in his variation table.
Regards
Bert
