40b Leyland Royal Tiger Coach
40b Leyland Royal Tiger Coach
The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists as variation 40-2E a clear window and red tailights version (i.e. Nick's code 1) but with BPW. Whilst this might be a misidentification of a standard BPW model with very pale green windows, the listing of variation 40-2F as clear windows and BPW, but this time without the red tailights, lends credibility to both entries. Can anyone confirm the existence of a clear window version of this model with anything other than 9 x 20 SPW?. The rest of the NAMC listing is, quite frankly, a bit of a mess, but I am left with the impression that the application of the rear trim (to the rear lights) was a bit hit-and-miss.
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983), Stannard and Houghton do not contain any variations not already listed by Nick, and U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

Just adding this slight variation , slightly wider centre pillar in the front windscreen. I have Nick,s code-5,8 and 9 with the later type(wider).

Re: 40b Leyland Royal Tiger Coach
I wonder if that's a deliberate casting variation or simply a detail difference between paired tooling.
Re: 40b Leyland Royal Tiger Coach
To me the whole of the window surround looks a bit thicker and not so sharply cast

Does look to me like they have made it wider, I have about 15 of these and it definitely seems to be more on the later models. I will keep an eye out on earlier models to see if its across all the code,s.Idris wrote:I wonder if that's a deliberate casting variation or simply a detail difference between paired tooling.
At the moment on my listing,s , I have both types of castings on code 5 but only the wider version on codes 8 and 9.

Re: 40b Leyland Royal Tiger Coach
It rather subtle, but it also looks like the vertical bars in the grill, are slightly wider as well.

Very nice notice Jason. There are several unlisted or not mentioned variations. For comparison:
a) clear (light green tinted) windows
b) green windows

There is some variations in the shades. I have a model which is almost metallic silver or light metallic silver-blue.
