DAF (K11 / K13 / K20 / K34)

Post by AJR »

Before I post pics of my sad DAF collection, could I start off with some questions?

Can anyone shed any light on the Army version, which has K13 / K20 on the baseplate? It must be a late version released just before the load bed was altered to K34 spec but I have never seen one with a load, nor for that matter a mint boxed one. Does anyone know the correct load for this variant?

I have looked on the internet and have found one with a load, but is it the correct load (ramp / pallet / MB70 Rolamatic SP Gun) or has this just been added to it?

Attached is a pic of the model found on the internet with its load (top) and my own example (bottom) without. The pics also show variations on the DAF itself .... Most common version of this has an Opal Fruit Green cab interior (Starburst Green to you youngsters) and green tinted glazing with a satin black baseplate and grille. The internet pic shows a clear glazing variation whilst my model shows a body coloured baseplate and grille.

I've got an unboxed one, will photograph and post pictures on the weekend.

Do a Google search on Battleking MM2, a very late blister release!

Thank you for the pointer to Battle Kings MM2. lots of pics coming up on Google now :D
Seems that it should have a black ramp, a pallet with a matt green engine and a Rolamatics Weasel Armoured Car.
Seems that the green baseplate and grille is the rarer variation :D and there is also a different sticker on the side of some of them (orange / yellow square with a black figure 8).

Very nice topic, it would be good to see some others. There are so many different types and variations its quite a nice one to collect.
I do not have many boxed and most do not have the loads for some of them, also looks like you have another one to look out for. Still plenty to go for me, I do not go out of may way to get the variations most are bought in collections or job lots.

A stunning model from the Matchbox Military range. The blister card has the corporate 'Twin-Pack' look, so I am guessing it comes from around the 1976-77 period, these are rarely seen in any condition. There was a fabulous Articulated fuel tanker to go with the transporter, but not sure what else was available.

That's a nice one ... and with the body coloured baseplate as well.

MM1 was the tanker and I have a funny feeling they were South African release.

I like the MM1 & MM2 sets. It's a bit confusing for me time-wise. Were the military two-packs superseded by BattleKings and did the MM1 & MM2 packs run alongside the latter BattleKings?

The original 'Battle Kings' range of 8 models were first introduced during 1974, with continuous additions to the range upto recent times. I believe every Year the range was tweaked with new models and packaging. Only those first models were actually based on prototypical vehicles, but over time the designs became futuristic designs, but the 'Matchbox Military' range were all based on proper vehicles, I don't think there was any intention of the Two ranges ever coming together and the 'Battle Kings' were more heavily concentrated on regards marketing with their striking box designs.

The 'Matchbox Military' range is a less well known product, I did not check this, but I don't think they were even in pocket catalogues and they may well be a range of models only for the South African market as "Matchboxkiwi" mentions.

That MM1 military tanker was also part of the Battle Kings range as K115. It was a recolour of the K16 ford tanker (Shell / Texaco / Aral / etc). The DAF was never a Battle King which is where I got lost. I'd never heard of the Matchbox Military range.
