my regular wheel stacey sale wins
my regular wheel stacey sale wins
I won some orange tractors which i have posted in the superfast forum, with them came a badly repainted john deere which had a bright yellow steering wheel ,not sure if this is anything new, also won a small regular wheel mixed lot,bid on this because the tippax looked a paler blue which is turned out to be but its a repaint,a very good repaint?the only other interesting win was the grey mercury police car with one gold wheel, the paper bonnet label puts this firmly towards the end of production so i would guess its either a factory error or a colour trial.

Re: my regular wheel stacey sale wins
From what you are suggesting the Stacey sale may have had quite a few repaints amongst the sale lots. I assume you will be contacting the sale room to seek a return if they sold them as original Matchbox?
I wonder how many of the SF's were repaints?

That is what I have heard on the grapevine.motorman wrote:From what you are suggesting the Stacey sale may have had quite a few repaints amongst the sale lots.
Re: my regular wheel stacey sale wins
Trouble with this sale is that the seller was from R&D - what is real and what is not is hard to say as some of these models were mockups for presentation to the board. The repaints may well be that but done at Lesney at the time to choose different shades/colours. They cannot just be thrown out as repaints in my opinion without some thorough checking and would have helped with some provenance from the seller, Peter Smith. The YY model T ford with the RAF tray on the back was one good example as I have seen a similar model made to completion as a Hay truck and have a photo of it on my site.
Re: my regular wheel stacey sale wins
My pre pro tipper number 51 has some hand painting and this is what i would expect on some models, the tippax i think is more likely a proper repaint ,the orange tractors i am happy with, the mercury i am happy with and the collectors case i am happy with,i have no beef with staceys at all ,only the scorpions were described has pre pro and i would say not but you can,t really tell for sure.Auctions are a gamble ,its really down to the buyer to view the items or get a condition report,i did neither but i didn,t mean to imply i was not happy with my lots ,i just wanted to show what i had won has a follow on from starting the thread.

Personnaly I would only buy from an online auction if I viewed it or know for sure what it is. I got to view some of these at Brentwood and was surprised when a few questionable models sold for big bucks to online bidders. A Few people are going to be disappointed when they open there packages.

were all the models from the same collection or have some from other sellers got mixed in ??tjlglass wrote:Personnaly I would only buy from an online auction if I viewed it or know for sure what it is. Yeah they mixed a few in which is a bit naughty really, like I said Reg having them in your hand is the best option. Well pleased with the black display though.
Re: my regular wheel stacey sale wins
There is no reason why the grey Mercury couldnt actually be a colour trial for paper stickers before they were ok´d for mass production -does it have any early casting features on the baseplate or chisel cut rivits? Gold wheel could be a varnished standard one unless plating looks as smooth as the the normal hubs
Re: my regular wheel stacey sale wins
I have no explaination for the wheel being gold, the base is bare metal.it doesn,t have the silver sheen standard cars have or the amount of overspray on the inside. No casting variations i can see.SMS88 wrote:There is no reason why the grey Mercury couldnt actually be a colour trial for paper stickers before they were ok´d for mass production -does it have any early casting features on the baseplate or chisel cut rivits?
