Hi all,

I think I have found an unlisted variation of the No. 46b Pickford Removal Van.
It has all the details of the second casting type (two lines at front panel, fuel filler cap and locker), but it still has the old type of radiator without the "Guy" name.
So it must have come between the first and second casting.....check out your models......

Very interesting!
The implication is that the tooling for the front of the pantechnicon (great word!) comprised at least two sections. Why two rather than one I wonder.......

What a interesting find. When you say old type radiator do you mean first or second casting?
I think though this is the second diamond pattern radiator whereas the first type has vertical lines.
There are a couple of minor variants to the front end that you may also be able to check.
For some reason the thickness (when viewed from the side) of the three front window columns went from thick to thin then back to thick.
Can you please have a look inside and see if this one has three braces (strengthening bars) that run from the roof down past the windows. Or is it smooth inside?

you are right, this is the second (diamond) pattern Radiator - I thought the only difference was the "Guy" name!
So after all it is the second type radiator casting, but without the "Guy".
The model does not have the braces, so the front window columns are smooth inside.

Thanks Kay,

Here is an image of two of mine with a similar characteristic. Most of the diamond pattern does not exist but for a small section bottom left hand side corner of radiator. It has a nice coating of mask spray trim still intact though. You can just make out the letter Y on one. Given the recess for pattern and letters is so small it may have been a metal flow problem, perhaps for certain periods during life of model.
These two are actually a later casting than yours, they have the braces/strengthening ribs so the window columns are thicker.

yes, that's a quite accurate description of the place! (The place itself was called "Durango")

But I did not realize the model was some kind of strange version when I bought it.
I actually bought it because of the nice E type box that came with the model, which was still missing in my collection.....
The price agreed from both sides was excellent, so I took the model!

Back home I wanted to get the model listed in my Excel list, which is based on the Stannard codes - but then I noticed that something did not fit into the codes.
Nick's site did not list this, too - so now I wonder if this is some kind of new code?
I don't think it is a matter of just a worn out tool.....
