Need 1000 points of light (beacons)

Post by CrazyDave »

Does anybody have a source for replacement red and blue police beacons. No, not bacon, that's on my other wish list.

I like to turn unsuspecting regular wheel vehicles into Police cars. But it's all about the beacon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. May be free decals in it for you !

I paid through the nose for Steve's 14 different roof beacons (red and blue) once. Worthless! None of them work on the Dodge Wrecker, or any Matchbox for that matter.
I was so mad I wanted to get on a plane and return them in person.

I do notice that Mr. Flowers does not mention if his will fit MBs.

Would suggest to me that if they.were suitable for Dinky /Corgi then it would be Matchbox Super Kings compatible and not the standard size Matchbox.

Your best option could be investing in a 3D printer and make your own, in the UK they are £600 and dropping.

I asked Steve in email for beacons, said I needed them for the Matchbox Dodge Wrecker and Galaxie Police Car. He said sure, I have red and blue.
They were not cheap as I ordered two sets of each. Either I was hood winked, or Steve didn't know his product very well.

I need to beg Andy McCoy for his home grown beacons.

Beacons are some of the easiest things to cast. I've made a few by coloring some clear epoxy. I made a mold using silicone caulk.

I may try my hand at making my own. Which clear epoxy and where do I find it?

Hi Dave
I had the thought that you may perhaps be able to make some from "Lite Brite" pegs ( you may remember those)
I had one as a kid. As I recall the pegs are a little larger than you would need for the beacons, but perhaps you could put them in a drill, and spin them down with a file or sandpaper, and then polish them out again.
