Yes Windows fans, you can now update your operating software to the new sparkly Windows 10, completely free of charge, this gives you fully automatic updates, you have
NO control over them, all automatic so you get the latest security patches, firmware for Microsoft programmes on your computer and anything else they think you might want.
Hang on a minute, they have not finished updating Windows 8, so why are they now giving us Windows 10...Hmm, something fishy going on here! and if they are giving it away free, they don't have much confidence in it do they...

My computer's quite stable and I generally wait until the teething problems are ironed on new releases before I think about changing. So I won't be rushing in

XP was very buggy and vulnerable and they are not doing any security updates for it now. I'll stick with 7 as it works very well.

Officially Microsoft stopped supporting the home edition of 'XP', but if your tech minded you can still get the updates for the industrial version of 'XP' until 2019, the system used in ATM's and cash registers. There is a way of tricking your Home edition of 'XP' into thinking it is the 'Windows Embedded POSReady' version and you can do this if you go into the registry of your computer. I am not telling you here what to do, you'll have to Google it...
I still use XP Home Edition on a media centre computer and I have a stand alone PC that has 'XP Professional' for business use which I intend to get back in service, then I have my bunch of laptops filled with the biggest load of crap ever invented, Vista and Windows 7 among them...!
I certainly won't be rushing to even get a glimpse or a sniff of Windows 10, let alone consider installing it...

Whatever you do don't upgrade to Windows 10 - it might be free but the terms of use allow Microsoft to access almost all your date, your address book, your emails and so on - there has been a lot of publicity over the last week on what information it has access to and how Microsoft is sending all that information to itself from your computer using your bandwidth.

Yes, very glad to be rid of XP. Especially since it's got compatability issues with newer stuff. Also very pleased with 7. Like other have mentioned, I'm on the wait and see bandwagon ... certainly can't hurt to be a little patient.

Thanks for the link Ian, the tips in the article will come in very handy should any of us decide to take the plunge into Windows 10. I am holding off until we hear some more reviews about it. I use Windows 8 at work and i hate it so i am reluctant to upgrade my home computer which uses windows 7, which i love using.

My daughter is a professional software tester. I'll wait for the green light from her.
Microsoft release stuff free so the public can find all the faults and advance their development for them for free.
