42b Studebaker Lark Wagonaire

Post by Idris »

Whilst not the most complicated model in terms of variations, I strongly suspect that the 42b Studebaker is the most difficult to catalogue.

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists one variation not listed anywhere else. Model 42-2E is given as light metallic blue body, light blue sliding panel.
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) does not have any unlisted variations, and both Stannard and Houghton are simply wrong since they only list a single body colour.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

Within this Forum, we have had two otherwise unlisted models: i) the very pale blue body which seems to be found exclusively in The Netherlands and which occurs both with an without undercoat (here), and ii) a single (and therefore, as yet, unverified) model having the roof slide in a darker shade than the body. (here).
In addition, we have changes to the glazing insert which have yet to be reconciled with body and roof slide colour changes (here).

The variation with the roof slide in a darker shade than the body has now been confirmed (here).
