The rivets and axles look good but both the bonnet and the boot show stress circles thru the paint. Would this be an indication of an amateur attempt to re fix the base?

Distemper in paintwork can happen at any stage. The base rivets look good.Kindly add clear close-ups of the bonnet and rear boot blemishes without flash so that a true determination can be made.

Hello numi and thanks for the reply.
I thought i would get lots of response on this post.
Will have another go at clearer pictures.
i used that bonnet picture because the circle was so clear on that angle and difficult to see in the other pictures I took.
It was after midnight with a desk lamp so i will take some more pic's outside in natural light this afternoon when i get home.
thanks

Could you please clarify. By "dark blue", do you mean a non-standard colour for this model? If so, does it match another Lesney colour of the right period?

Nothing obviously amiss with those spun rivets.
My guess would be something along the lines of either a heavy-handed (probably inexperienced) operator, or perhaps incorrect positioning of the model in a support cradle. (If this were an R&D piece, we would expect to see chisel-cut rivets.)

hello Idris,
I mean dark blue compared to the other 2 I have.
Never thought to look at other models of the period but will do so in due course.
Thanks for your input and constructive comments.

I agree with Hugh about the heavy handed operative the rivets have a countersunk look to them
Nearest colour that springs to mind is the #58 bea coach

One roockie question.
How can the paint inside the rivets be worn though the base shows absolutely no sign of wear ? Is it due to a different paint quality, or to a different metal that base and body are made of ?

I've always assumed it was from the riveting tool damaging the paint, why some are affected more than others beats me
