I was not sure if I was going to put this picture in the 'Show us your toy room' thread as virtually all my collection is in boxes, not a single model is on display!
I decided I would not as just looking at boxes is boring, you want to see the contents inside, so I decided to give this model it's own thread.

This is what I find when I open a box such as this, several 'POLISTIL' Rolls-Royce Corniche models. The small home made paper envelopes are for the tyres, as I removed them when these models went into storage in these boxes.

I decided to let one out for a play, it has not seen Daylight for a few Years!

You will notice the tyres are matched to each model, as you know I am a Devil for variations and just in case the tyres are different between the models, at least I have the correct ones for each version (I really must get out more!!).

I have only seen this in silver or white - certainly a good seller for the company!

The White model is the original 'POLITOYS' version when it was a Silver Shadow. The Silver-Grey model above is the re-vamped Corniche version by 'POLISTIL' and I have only seen them in Silver-Grey as shown in the pictures above.

How very odd to see rubber tyres on a Polistil model when all models had been converted to cheap speedwheels BEFORE the brand name change. I have that white model - it just says Rolls Royce on the box and baseplate - no mention of silver Shadow (or Corniche) !!

The 'POLITOYS' model was introduced in 1970 as model number M 593, in Silver-Grey, White and White with racing stickers.

The real Corniche was introduced in 1971, all toys and models of the 2 door saloon and convertible made before this date can only be Silver Shadow or Bentley T Series.

The 'POLISTIL' model was introduced in 1978 in a Corniche themed window box (shown below), and it did not have the 'Low Friction' wheels as used on the earlier 'POLITOYS' version, it had (along with a matching Silver Cloud III), soft Nylon based tyres and Corniche is moulded onto the baseplate.

Unlike SF69, at least Politoys didnt put a Silver Shadow rear end on this convertable! It is highly unlikely that this toy was created WITHOUT permission & plans or motor show photos from Rolls so I see no problem whatsoever in Politoys releasing what looks like a Corniche before the factory 1:1 reached showrooms. However these cheap looking speedwheels didnt appear as early as 1970 as far as I recall & saw!

Here is an advert for the 'POLITOYS' Rolls-Royce convertible, dated October 1970.

The advert says it all - not really a Corniche but a MPW like the Corgi ! Interesting date -they must have had a huge amount of unsold rubber tyre stock of other castings for shops to have plenty in 1973-74 which was the last time I saw rubber tyre Politoys for sale and the 1st time I saw speedwheels Polistils for sale............

Mick, no one said the Politoys was a Corniche, I didn't, so it won't say Corniche in the October 1970 advert, the model was only a Corniche from 1978 onwards (despite the 1977 date on the box, but that's another story), when the model was being made and marketed by 'POLISTIL'.

Go and have a lie down, it seems this is getting a bit confusing for you and I don't like my forum friends all confused... :D
