This car appears to be made of lead, on the inside of the bonnet are the letters ´British made´´. Can anybody identify its maker or even the 1:1 that it is supposed to represent? this was made long before the sort of toys I collect so I know nowt - thankyou :geek:

It looks like an original very early 'Modelled Miniature' by Meccano, the Sports Coupe.

It looks similar to the 22b Hornby series closed sports coupe, just slightly different to the few photos I checked. They also seem to have had Hornby Series stamped underneath.

The radiator is cast as part of the body, no baseplate, small like an MG if 1/43 scale - perhaps its a copy by a competitor of Meccano?

Taylor and Barrett did some Dinky copies with white tyres, radiator cast as part of the body and 'British Made' rather than 'Made In Britain' cast underneath. I haven't seen a Sports Coupe before but not my area of expertise - may be a name worth looking into though?

It's the sort of thing that Patrick Tench would be able to identify. IIRC Ghosty is in touch with him.

Thank's Hugh, I'll send Patrick the picture and as I know he is always in contact with Robert Newson he'll probably show it to him.

The model in the picture by "SMS88" appears to be made by 'JOHILLCO' according to Robert Newson, whom I sent the picture to first as His Email was handy. He did say these models sometimes have a small 'DYSON' name.

Mick, Robert has asked if you could really check the inside of the model for the 'DYSON' name, as he is not aware of this particular example minus the name, all the previous examples he is aware of, do have the 'DYSON' name., thanks.

Interesting. Some more information on Dyson here.
