Just because the man is incorrect does not mean it's a fake. I do suspect tampering, but tampering using all original parts is not uncommon on the snap base models. These are often popped apart by owners to replace an interior where the cone might be missing in the mans hand or to put in a better window insert or even to place an original gray plastic wheel base upon a much better condition model.
Inspect the small axle ends for tampering. But, it's very possible all the parts are factory, just rearranged after the fact by a previous owner or a dealer seeking a higher price.
