just a quick question how common is the cosmobile with an unpainted base I picked one up the other day for a few quid and can't recall seeing one before

Not one of my favourite SF's so i dont tend to look out for them that much but I would say they are hard to find Reg, the last one i saw was a blue Cozzy with the unpainted base, that was quite a while ago on ebay and more often seen with the yellow base.

they are ugly but it was cheap enough and I don't think Christian shows one either

I think the unpainted base Cosmobile is quite rare. I sort of like the model because it went well with my space Legos I used to enjoy. I do not think it is listed in Charlie Macks Matchbox encyclopedia and seems to be rare enough he was not aware of it when making his book. I have owned three of them over the last 15 years of collecting and all have had the first issue silver interior and amber windows. Two have had plated baseplates which I feel is standard for the production model. The other one I have has a raw mazak base and I consider it a preproduction.
