Post by Ecclesley »

Rolls Royce Silver Ghost tender, a lookalike of the LoA car. A Rolls Royce in the desert is above rubies:

Thank you Gerrit for posting this, it is really superb, made in the style of how Matchbox could have done it. This is one Rolls-Royce I will also be making. I think a couple of passengers might be the icing on the cake...!

The real 'Tender' this model is base-on was Lawrence's favourite car and when later asked what he would like most of all after the War, he said..."I would like a Rolls-Royce and enough petrol and tyres, to keep it running"...the Rolls-Royce he was referring to was his beloved 'Tender' which even when Lawrence was using it, was very old, it is a 1908 chassis, (his Armoured Cras were 1914 production) and it burnt a lot of oil, he nicknamed it...'Blue Mist'. Sadly he never got the car, it was handed over to the RAC, refurbished and handed to General Allenby for his use in Cairo.

The car has been recorded as still surviving somewhere and has recently been immortalized in a painting.

A very creative restoration and custom!

This is what I love about this side of the hobby, damaged and broken models (that most collectors shun) come back to a new life.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
