Copper Coated Axles

Probably a silly question, but I've never noticed copper coloured or copper coated axles on a Superfast before (maybe I haven't looked properly). I know there's a few rw models with concealed axles that have this and I think some YY's too but how common is it on Superfasts?

This copper axes are frequently found in the No. 10, 17 and 32.
