I noticed this catalogue/leaflet on ebay, can anyone tell me more about the Y12 in green?

It seems a colour change for it's release in 1958 has taken place...

Not to my knowledge. Early catalogues contain many models in proposed colours that were never released, or even made as prepros. The example you show is from 1959.
Shown in the 1960 catalogue as a line drawing, the horse drawn fire engine (Y4-2) was listed as a Merryweather, and shown as Y16, The following year, it was shown thus
This picture alone was responsible for the misused term "grey horses" I feel sure. The same picture appeared in 1he 1962 catalogue, along with a very fetching Y16 Spyker in
two tone green!

Perhaps it was a trial batch for the Australian market?

I wish. I also searched for years for those grey horses ! Know differently now. Lledo made the horse bus in green though but these were artists impressions so somewhere along the line the artist would have been given a green bus to draw for the catalogue !! Same as the revered 2 tone green Spyker which we know exists and who has it - where is the green bus !!!

It looks to me as though those horses have been taken from a monochrome photograph.

The firemen and the wheels look a bit suspect too.

Those illustrations started as Monochrome photos, hand coloured, but for the Horses they left them 'As Is' to create the effect of Grey Horses.
