I love seeing price tags and prices written on boxes in Pencil, so handy in helping to date models.

No one has mentioned the front trim variations for the 47b. Some have the front grille, headlights and bumper done. Others have only the silver grille, no headlights and no bumper trim. Judging from the few beaters I have, it looks like the silver grille only might have come first.

Nick catalogues the grille trim as coming towards the end of the model's life, with earlier models only having the headlights trimmed. (There is no bumper!) Furthermore, I think there are hand-trimmed and mask-trimmed grilles, the latter being simply a silver oval in the middle of the grille, whilst the former has the whole grille painted over. Could the grille-only trim be the result of the headlight holes becoming blocked on a mask? Perhaps the correct chronology is full hand-applied trim, hand-applied headlights only, mask-sprayed oval grille with/without headlights?
We should not forget Garry's gold trimmed example.

Having slept on it, that doesn't work because of the change from MW to GPW. The examples with grill trim must post-date those without.

Just to jump back in and note I was speaking about the trim on the 47 "b", the Commer ice cream van.

nevertheless, the trim on the 47a is anomalous, with the amount of trim increasing over trime Furthermore, I don't think the two versions of the grille trim have been recognised.

Didn't we have a discussion on the 47a trim (was it on lefora?). The switch between hand applied and mask sprayed is the logicial reason for big differences.
