Hi all,

Got these, and a few others listed for Saturday finish if anybody's interested?

There's a black 40b on for £375.00 that's lost a headlamp, and a maroon Vanguard at £1300.00, so these ain't too bad if you don't mind playworn?

Chris - the 40b is very interesting.. probably the only one I don't have... what was the history of the Black versions?

I'm sure that if Chris tells us that these models are rare, then they are really rare. I therefore find it staggering that neither of these models sold - neither attracted so much as a single bid. Is this another example of Ebay slowing down (as has been mentioned elsewhere)?

Idris... I KNOW they are rare and I'm not disputing that... what I'm interested in is the history behind the production of the black models as I can't find anything in my reference books about them other than in the Richardsons' Dinky book and its listed but no history of the models or photo of the item.

Also I missed the listings first time round...

Hi all,

The black Triumph was produced in a relatively small quantity (no one knows exactly how many) at the very start of the run. Dinky had a close relationship with Triumph, as shown with the later Herald special colours issues. It's only a rumour, as so many years have gone by now, but the Black 40b was supposed to have been a run of samples bought by Triumph so that dealers could give one away when a real Triumph 1800 was purchased, a few were made, but the scheme never took off.
A mint unboxed (these only came in trade boxes) Black 40b went for £5000.00 in 1991 /2.
Mine is STILL for sale if anybody wants it :D as is the maroon Vanguard.

Hi Ian.

If it fails to sell then by all means make me an offer, it would have to be close to the starting bid though. Or offer me a swop? I'm always up for something interesting?

Here are my other 40b's....

I'm still missing two that I know of, Fawn with blue hubs, and light blue with red hubs.

If I was you Ian, I would take both while the chance is there, you won't see many more turn up in any condition. Get yourself Two very nice 'Play-Worn' examples of Hard To Find models, they will look good on your collector's website.

Ian, my first sentence was simply meant to set the stage for my second sentence. My contribution was meant as a stand-alone post rather than as any kind of response to your post. (I'm sure that you and Chris has forgotten more about Dinky Toys than I will ever know.)
Apologies for the misunderstanding.

No apology necessary - I misunderstood where you were coming from... my apologies to you :)
