Find of a forgotten motorized Corgi display!
Find of a forgotten motorized Corgi display!
Had the luck to buy this display. Came from a dutch salesman from the SIO company, who was the sole
distributor in the Netherlands in the 60´s for Corgi Toys. Its a huge motorized, wooden show display for bigger stores
like Hamleys, Harrods and much other. These were displayed at christmas time in the stores in windows or special
sales places in the toysection. From this motorized display were made 6 pieces and most of them were thrown away
after the mechanism and motor collapsed! So i think not many, perhaps only this one left. These were made by SIO
for the Mettoy company and was in permanent rotation between the stores, not only England also Benelux!
This one has survived in original wooden shipping box with shipping labels by Mettoy company in like new condition,
because the salesmen had borrowed the mechanism parts and motor for collapsed displays and so they cant use it
any longer. Came with the original set of models!
Found an old photo in my archive material from the Marcel van Cleemput collection where it was shown in b/w.
Here you can see it on display in the 60´s.
Hope you will like it?!

Re: Find of a forgotten motorized Corgi display!
That is a life's dream to find such a display! WOW
I look forward to your re-creating the original black and white photo contents some day to publish a picture in colour. The models you have with it are very Mint indeed, but those buildings shown in the original are ones I can't identify. What a Showpiece, maybe unique as you are saying. The motor takes very little effort to replace today, but for the original wood to be so nice is a miracle.
Thanks for getting us all quite excited today over your treasure. kwakers

So how do the cars move around? Is it a similar to the Matchbox motorways, using a spring and pins attached to the cars or dose it use a magnetic band like Lesney was going to try and do before canning the motorway idea?
