DDR Tankers

The 11b, 25c, and 32c tankers are all supposed to have been shipped to the DDR without decals/labels in order to get round the ban on promoting decadent imperialist capitalist companies (although I have never seen a satisfactory explanation of what they did with the boxes).
I have examples of the 25c and 32c (sourced from sellers in the former East Germany at no premium so I'm pretty certain that they're genuine) and am now turning my attention to the 11b.
Nick's catalogue page only lists a single code without a rear decal, no. 17. Is this the DDR version, or is it simply a short run without a decal? The reason I ask is that I would have thought that several different variations (rather than just one) would have been shipped to the DDR over the years.

Hi Hugh
I have one 11b ERF Tanker without the rear decal. On the first glance there is no evidence of the decal.

I think that equates to Nick's code 11 (It's definitely not his code 17!)

I do have a (Nick's) code 17 Tanker (black plastic wheels, 2.5 mm brace with hole), but it has a totally different kind of decal.
A collecting friend of mine bought it long time ago from a collector from East Germany. He was told that the No. 11b Tankers were delivered to East Germany without decals - some of them were sold like that, and others had been decorated with a kind of generic decal like this one before they were given out to the shops for selling.
I don't know If this story with the additional decal is true, as I have never seen another one or heard of one - but several collectors from East Germany have told me that the Tankers that found their way to East Germany at least had no Esso decals!

Very intriguing! I've never seen one like that before. Perhaps this was a purely local initiative for just a single shipment?

That looks like a decal from an Aircraft cockpit...!
