Grit Spreader color
Grit Spreader color
First time posting on this forum. Have not been very active on MB forums for a few years. Heavily involved in another hobby but have still been collecting.
Picked this up at a train show last week. Noticed it from a distance that the color was not right. Did they use a primer coat and this one missed the color coat? There is no sign of a repaint or that the model was tampered with.

Re: Grit Spreader color
Have a look at at the posting on the MB40 7 ton tipper. The colour of this tipper tray looks similar to the colour shown here. May be it's a colour trial.

Sharp eyes Mark S, and Welcome to the Forum! This Grit Spreader certainly looks all original, and I love that very interesting rear body color as shown in your Super comparison photos. Thanks for showing it here. I just took a look at Nick's online variation Guide, and the green cab pre-pro Spreader shown there has a rear body painted in a very similar color. If your casting details are very early on your Truck, perhaps it was put together with left over color trial components early in production (??). Very Interesting Model and a well done first Post..... kwakers

Hello Mark welcome to the Forum!
Painting itself looks good to me. The colour of the tipper tray comes close to the colour of the hatchback from Hardy's RW#26 Pre Pro...what do the others think?

What about the rivets? Would you say these look good, too? Maybe some Forum members would be happy, seeing a base shot. There is no sign of a repaint or that the model was tampered with.

Thankyou for the replies. I will post a photo of the rivets later today. They look fine to me but others can chime in. I will look at my collection and see if I can find a model that may have a similar color on it.
I will look at the variation guide to see if it appears to be an early casting.

Re: Grit Spreader color
Now that I have examined it alot closer it is not looking right.
The rear rivet looks suspect. Along with the slide tab being broken. Possibly from trying to remove the base? Rear of base is slightly loose. The paint also is not smooth. You can see flakes all over it. The front rivet looks good to me and is tight. The paint covers the whole dump even where the mold ring is so it seems it would had to have been removed to paint. Taping off does not seem like it would have worked and would have taken a large amount of painstaking time.
Also looking at some of the spots where paint is missing such as the ends next to the slide. Doesn't match up with wear on the rest of the model.

Hello Mark, now you have shown more detailed pictures, I have to say that I suspect the model has been tampered-with. That rear rivet looks so Iffy to me and a repaint is looking more probable...
Thanks for the extra pictures.
