repro boxes
repro boxes
I wanted to know if you can buy 1-75 reproduction reg wheel/ superfast boxes? I was thinking about using them in my display case, if these can be bought at a reasonable price.
Thanks

Personaly i would never put a repro box anywhere near my collection, however i am aware that some boxes are extremely rare and there has to be a compramise on occassion especially when the price of the original box is prohibitive so in that respect i would never criticise another collector choosing to include a repro box for display purposes.

Re: repro boxes
Motorman,
Since most of my collection is "unboxed", I thought about putting boxes in my display case, more for the artwork and color. I see many collections displayed on this forum with the model setting on the box, which I think looks great! Any names or websites to buy these boxes?
Thanks

Re: repro boxes
For me a 'Repro' box is better than no box at all as it helps to keep the model safe while in storage, but if you intend to display then make it clear what boxes are 'Repro' and they are (or should be!), cheaper than originals and will do until you can get original boxes.

Re: repro boxes
Bob the only problem is that most repro boxes are a very poor imitation of the original box so if you do invest in a few for display purposes you should not expect to see any return on these boxes in the future should you decide to sell a model with repro box as they have absolutely NO value!

Re: repro boxes
Ghosty brings up a good point of a repro box for storage of a particular model, better than no box or a plastic box. I am also not a fan of "repro" boxes for models, but not my intent to pass off a "no box model" for a "mint in box model".

Re: repro boxes
I would always be happier knowing the box was original than a repro, no matter the condition of the original!!!

Motorman,
You bring up a good point of poor quality, as is most repro crap today. I have never seen any repro boxes in person, so if they are really poor quality,I wouldn't even invest a dime in them. I guess the problem is that as time goes by, all of the original stuff is harder and harder to get. This is the same problem I have buying parts for my antique cars.

Re: repro boxes
Dont forget Bob that original boxes are available in all sorts of conditions so if you cannot afford a mint original than opt for a Fair/good condition original. IMHO i would rather have a fair to good original box on display than some photcopied repro.Bob/Ohio wrote:Motorman,
