Hi all,

If anybody see a Rolls, let's take a picture and post here. I hope Kevin will be happy!

Here is the first. I took it in a small village near Budapest. It stands in a garage where often repairs oldtimer cars.

Have a nice day, Kevin!

Peter

Thank you Peter, very kind of you and if your interested in the car, it is an early UK specification Series II Silver Shadow saloon, on a very late 1976 UK registration plate and how a UK car comes to being in the Budapest area is odd unless the owner was on a touring holiday and it 'Failed to Proceed' (as they say at Rolls-Royce, not broken down!!), but with wheel trims missing and what looks like some lower-arch damaged at the front (rust), I rather think it has been there some time and the dark strip through the rear registration plate is normally signs of tape being applied to cover the registration numbers and letters while the car is being moved on a recovery truck or transporter (in my experience connected to POLICE activities!), so have you found a stolen car from the UK, sitting waiting to be broken down for spares and scrap value... :o

Thank's Reg for checking the DVLA records for us. Hope it stays road legal then and somebody is enjoying the pleasures of driving around in one of Britain's finest set of wheels... :)

Ooh! thank you Peter. Look at that, another Silver Shadow in more or less the same location as the first car. Well for starters it has a mild steel exhaust pipe (Stainless Steel from 1969 onwards), narrow wheel-arches (these were 'Flared' in 1974), picnic tables on the back of the front seats (removed in 1969), non-vented wheel trims (air-vent trims used from 1971), no head-rests (fitted in 1973), no side marker lamps at the corners of both the front and rear wings (small units fitted in 1969), but I can not quite see the dash panel but will be a pre-1969 layout.

So, what model year is this Rolls-Royce, the Silver Shadow was announced in 1965, first deliveries in 1966, I have given the earliest date of 1969 for some of the details I know were changed, so we have narrowed it down to a car made between 1966 and 1969, not bad going as we could not see the whole car, but there is one crucial detail I was able to see, the opening quarter-light on the front doors are of the opening design, during 1967, these were replaced by a fixed window.

The car in the picture above was made between late 1966 to late 1967, providing none of my noted details are special request features done for a customer, outside of the normal specification for this body style.

Take care Peter and you have a nice Weekend.
