Very nice additions to anybody's 'Yesteryear' collection. I don't have any of them as they never turn up at the toy fairs I go to (or if they do, somebody has beeten me to it, haven't they Bob!!), and I am simply not an Ebayer, don't want to start, thank you very much.
Have we had a listing of what models were treated in this way, do you know if Mick's listing is a complete one Bob?
For plated models in lighter blocks I have seen the Y6 Bugatti and the Y15 Rolls in addition to those shown.
For plated models in paperweight blocks I have on record Y1 Allchin, Y2 Renault, Y6 Bugatti, Y7 Mercer, Y11 Packard, & Y14 Maxwell minus roof.
For painted models in lighter blocks I have Y2 Renault, Y6 Bugatti (blue), Y7 Mercer (lilac) & Y15 Rolls. Recently a Y10-1 Mercedes GP in a lighter block sold for over £330.
I was out bid on this one. A Y16 Spyker is also known, but has not been seen for many years.
For painted models in paperweight blocks I have on record Y1 Allchin & Y9 Fowler.
There may well be others, but these are the one's known to me.
I should qualify the above by saying my records only concern YY's.
Several 1-75's were also so encased, in circular or rectangular paper weights.
This one was in a Vectis Auction in 2006. Price realised £190 + commission + VAT
I have no idea which models can be found.
Fascinating stuff really, because for many Years collectors had no idea this other stuff was around or had even been made, There is a another thread running relating to the '1-75 series' being treated in this way with the possibility of 'Plated' versions of those models becoming 'Embedded'.
I have a white Mercedes GP in a lighter block. I bought it for ten pounds at Fareham Maltings one year. I would have never bought it if it had been much more than that as it's not in my collecting sphere. I think at the time the MICA magazine was going on about them which is the only reason I took any notice of it.
I have never seen another one.
