It's a Budgie. The casting pre-dates the Budgie series and was part of the ESSO Petrol Pump Series from Morestone (nee Morris & Stone).
Nick has a decent write up on these models here:

Thanks Tinman,
After reading your reply,I read more about these on the Homepage of this site. Seems odd that they had all that information on the base, but never included the name of the company?? Was this Esso series exported to the United States?

Some were exported to the USA but I don't think they are very common over there, They also exported the Lesney large coronation coach to the USA and put a Morris & Stone or morestone sticker covering the Lesney name on the box.

I have never seen any of these before, that is why I posted the pictures. I had seen this VW sitting in an Antique shop for the last 2 years. I guess it was time to give it a home, for $2.00. Who knows, I might find a few more sometime, now that I know what the rest of the series looks like. Glad Nick has pictures of them.

Reg,
It took me that long to save up enough cash to buy it!

They were few and far between in my neck of the woods. I do remember them being plentiful in the Bahamas. I thought Lesney Matchbox would be plentiful (and cheaper there) but never found any ... only the Morestone's.
