patents / copyright or circular

I have a straight forward question with regard to patents / copyright or circular.
I noticed on the base of a Lotus Europa I have, a circle with a C in the middle of it and the date 1969.
Does this mean the model was manufactured in 1969, copyright applied for in 1969 or patents applied for in 1969?
I have looked at many other superfasts and some have this C in a circle with a date and some don't.
I'm really curious as to what it applies to.
