Base Paint Question

Post by johnboy »

Another daft question probably, the upper chassis' look fairly similar gloss black on these Daimlers but one has a flat black base. Any ideas why? I can only think that it's occurred through storage or perhaps a hiccup on the paint line/oven process.

This is not uncommon. A lot of the models with black bases seem to have both types, from the 1st series (Y3, Y4, Y5) all the way up to the Straw box issues (Y2 PHV in particular).

The top model of those Two in "Johnboy's" picture above, has flat 'Footprint' tyres on the font wheels but rounded 'Footprint' tyres on the rear wheels, but both have rivets to be proud of...!

Thanks Ghosty, yes I'm very proud of those rivets but you can't just dangle that titbit of info about flat and rounded footprint tyres without telling me more :)

JB when you look at the rear tyres on the top one they have a rounded profile across the width the others have a flat look to them

What's happened here is that someone has displayed one of them on mirrored shelves in the display cabinet and the reflective light has taken the gloss off.
