Benbros tracked vehicle, identification.

Post by wends64 »

I am hoping that someone can help me to identify a Benbros tracked vehicle. It was part of a very large collection of buses trains and other vehicles that my Uncle had amassed. Sadly he died and left the whole collection to my mother. I have split it between family members after nearly three years of researching it. Some have been sold. The majority were EFE and OOC Corgi buses and Hornby trains/carriages, they were kept in wooden and glass display cabinets so as you would imagine it took quite a while to find the correct box and case, there were over 4000 models originally, none in the correct box!
I have come near to giving up identifying one model, it remains the only one left without a formal name as I can find no pictures that match it. It has Benbros on the bottom, has no box and has no other identifying marks. There is doubtless some parts missing, steering wheel for one, driver, but without a picture to go on I have no way to know what is missing. can anybody help please, or tell me where I should be looking? It is metallic blue, has yellow wheels and green tracks. It has a large footplate that makes me think it is a construction model. It is heavy for its size. Please ask whatever may help identify it and I will do my best to answer.
If someone will tell me how to add photos, I will add some.
Thank you.

Too add a picture, at the bottom of the "post your reply" box select the "upload attachment" tab.
Cilck the "browse" button, This will open a folder on your computer, go to the folder that contains the picture you want to upload, select the picture.

Thank you, mystery solved, it is one of the crawlers. The Benbros version not the Lesney. Apparently it is only missing the driver, though it has scrathings in the paint.
I assume as it came from a set of 12 that is why I can't find a catalogue number.
I have attached a photo.
Sorry I had to ask. I had searched for instructions on how to post photos and what size they needed to be but couldn't find the answer, thanks to the members who willingly gave the answer. ghosthunter your help did not contain what I was looking for, I use Adobe Photoshop and lightroom to edit photos and Dropbox to host them, but I couldn't find where to put the URL. I found your answer a little offensive, it so nice to make a new member feel so welcome, I will try not to bother you again. I was viewing your site on an iphone and couldn't see where it said URL.

Wends64,

Let me take the time to assure you that there is no need to take offence at Ghostys comments. Ghosthunter is a very civil and helpful chap without a bad bone in his body.

The guide that he has provided a link to is in order to help new members get used to being able to edit and post images on the forum, and there will be many new members who will learn something by reading it. I urge you to spend a bit more time on the forum you will soon see that your initial conclusions regarding Ghosthunter comments being offensive are wrong.

You are most welcome here and i do not want you to feel otherwise.

Hi Guys and especially "Wends64".

I think I know why "Wends64" thinks my answer is offensive, it is how I have written it..."you may learn something"...is assuming everybody on here already knows how to re-size and post pictures and that new members arriving know 'Jack Shit' about it.

This is not how It is meant to be taken, the fact you have probably got here through the use of a computer says a lot, how you load pictures is your choice, but if you have a problem, as most of us here have had at one time or another, needs addressing and my topic has several hints and tips on the methods that I know do work, or can be made to work, now, I am sorry if after reading my hints and tips, it does not help you, then just come back on and say so, and I or other members will help you the best way we can.

So, "Wends64" have I made it clear that no 'One-upmanship' was intended, I am sorry it was not phrased better and are you still having problems posting pictures?

I must add to the defence of Ghosty he is no way offensive and a very intelligent and helpful member (like many others on here) I for one am learning
something from him in most of our meetings
I feel Wends64 has taken his comments way out of context and as MM has said should read more on the forum and find out about some of the members
before making judgement

You must remember that for a new member to find out the way you prefer to view photos, you must know your way around the site, I didn't and i searched for instructions with no luck, so I asked the experts. OK I was on my phone so everything was small, but i was desperate to get this last unidentified model identified. I knew how to post photos but not the preferred size etc. My usual forums are dog rehoming forums not collectors forums.
I am not interested in models in the way a lot of your are, I had it forced on me when my uncle died. He left no will, only my mum my brother and I as relatives and thousands of models. Probate took nearly 7 years, cost an awful lot for storage and a huge tax bill. We agreed a figure with the tax man, the Hornby rail models, all 17352 models were loaned to a museum for a minimum 21 years, so any tax on their value is due then not now, the museum has the right to buy them before then for a sum greater or equal to the tax figure. (Simplified) He had a huge collection of thousands of boxed mint Dinky models which were sold to an unnamed private collector and took care of the Inheritance tax. He had worked all of his life for the railways, that's how the collection started. He had a very large collection of GWR defunct platform signs, lamps, buckets, clocks and seats, much went to a museum but duplicate items were sold. We tried to keep as much as possible together like he had but inheritance had to be paid even if we couldn't keep the items. That left me only about 4000 buses and odd models to find a home for. We decided that everything we raised for them would be given to Barnardo's who he supported when he was alive, he and his wife couldn't have children. We wanted to keep it but no one in the family had any real interest and it would have only been boxed and stored in the loft, if it was sold someone else would get what they enjoyed. I had to first of all put them back in their boxes in the right boxes, the tax man had poked and prodded and muddled them up, they had been in display cases with hand written signs, none of which that remained with the correct model. Some were OOC and some EFE, I first sorted out which were which , knowing nothing about the models I was initially confused with 6A and 6B model buses only realising there was a difference when I had boxed several wrongly! After three years of sorting, cataloging and selling them I had only got Corgi, unboxed dinky models and few misc models left like the Benbros crawler. My uncle must have bought boxed lots at auction, because several didn't match his interests, like the boxed and immaculate Noddy car and the cheap plastic train set. As far as we know he wasnt a member of collector clubs, he either bought new or at auction. I have kept a few, not because of the value, but because they meant something. e.g. twice per year he went on a one week holiday to the Scilly Isles, so I kept a bus with that bus route. I am proud of the fact that i almost single handedly managed to find new homes for over 63,000 items/models while bringing up three children, fostering and rehoming 11 dogs, renovating and extending my home all while my husband worked away in Afghanistan. I asked a few people that I came across for advice and it was one of these people who suggested you may be able to help with the Benbros crawler. I have about 60 models left to sell, all corgi models. In one way I will be glad to see the back of them but will also miss them, and the people I have met along the way. I know mush more than I did three years ago and I thank those that have helped with identification. I have a recurring nightmare that a full barn will turn up with his collection of full sized buses, but I believe there is a forum for that too!
