In my collection I list these two models as 34c and 34d as they are different roof castings, (that's only my way of thinking.)

saw where an E type box for the #34B Volkswagen Caravette with fine grey plastic wheels went for just over $900 US i wonder if the GPW model which isnt correct for that box wasnt there...how much that model wouldve went for...i think thats the only E type box im missing from my collection...as having one for each model not every variation of the E types...anyway on to the pics of the models

My 34s:

Funny quirk of 34b is that the box illustration shows doors the opposite side compared to the model.

34a with silver wheels and C box is something you don't see every day.

Hello fintail just changed your numbers from 33 to 34 on your last post, thank you for posting.

That type "C" box showing the door on the other side is a box that I have wanted for along time :( :(

Hi,

here two pictures of an draisine for DC model-rails made by Eheim.
Eheim used the body of the Matchbox 34a bus to build this little beauty.

What a complement to a Lesney display Malibu. It looks like it was repowered for the rail, but I had never seen this one before now in any of my visits to many Toy and Train Shops through the years.
Thanks for sharing it here! kwakers :o

Elusive is RIGHT! The 34B box is the only "E" regular box that I do not have! Thanks for sharing!
Also like the info on the improper "facing" of the "C" box ---- Good stuff!

Thanks for the heads up, George. I think the box mistake must have been because LHD vs RHD? I don't think that C box is particularly rare.

That rail-going VW is a near piece, never seen one of those either.

What we eventually pieced together on the old forum was that Lesney produced maroon 34a bodies for Eheim to use for their draisine. When the model was deleted from the range, the tooling was sold to Eheim who subsequently modified the tooling by i) turning the VW symbol on the front into a plain boss, and ii) deleteing the upper set of louvres on both sides. The former modification helped with the attachment of a round label to the front of the model, but there is no obvious reason for the latter one.
