i picked up this model & would like to know your opinion on it ,
i looked at the regular wheel page on this site & the grey plastic wheel version looks a darker shade of red ,
the rivets look ok to me but i am not sure about the silver trim on the bumper & lights ,

Silver trim looks brush applied to me, too thick to be spray.
Wheels,axles and rivits look good enough to me,its the correct early decal body too.
I have seen these gpw on brighter red bodies before online - not the common darkest shade
The only thing about it that I dont like is the decal damage around letters FI - I havent seen Lesney decals broken like this before because they are too thick to break up like modern ones made on a very thin carrier film.

The trim looks absolutely fine. Mick fails to remember the longer the item is held up to the mask, the more solid the paint work.

Are grey plastic wheel variants not normally found with 13 hose turns?

This one has only 10 turns?.........pleaee correct me if i am wrong but that is my understanding of this variant.

Mick's track record regarding silver trim is pretty poor, with factory-applied trim being regularly outed as having been applied by persons unknown (e.g. my 6b, 19c, 62a, and 68a for starters).

I have saved the picture of the rear and brightened it up little so we can see the hose detail etc. It has the 'Small' connectors and 'Staggered' keys.

This one actually can be called eleven turns because of the partial hose top way to the right in Ghosty's picture. That eleven turn hose configuration would normally have 'level' keys, so a caliper measurement will solve the question here. The ten turn hose is 6.2mm wide inside the end caps of the reel, while the eleven turn hose is 6.5 mm wide. Measuring sure beats counting those small hose tops on these rear hose reels.
Mike Stannard had the GPW with only 13 turns of hose as motorman points out, but we on the Forum are not convinced 10 or 11 turns may also be discovered on these GPW variants one day.
This one looks Great to me wtsgmi1970, congratulations on finding a real rare one here. The front silver trim is very heavy Idris, so maybe only 1/2 of a strike against Mick for mistaking hand detailing on this one? Your silver grills all looked fine on the models you named on our Forum Idris. I avoid answering negative or incorrect posts unless I am personally motivated as I SHOULD have been on all the trimmed models you showed us, especially that 6A in silver. kwakers

I can see the difference between brush strokes and dribbles from a clogged spray mask but nobody can more than 50% confidence level prove the difference between Lesney hand applied silver trim v trim applied by 1960s model makers and teenagers

As to the hose turns count, we have plenty of evidence that Lesney made mutiple plastic parts on every plastic tool so unless the design changes we are looking at can be proven to be a sequential change to the tool design then we can be confident that all different numbered grey baseplate units existed in production side by side once the pre-pro run had been signed off.Perhaps, given the brighter red paint usual on these gpw Landies they could be a pre-pro run of a few gross made like the reverse wreckers made before the first mass production run was authorised - certainly these wheels would only have been available in 1964-65
